Sustainable Management of Tourist Flow Networks: A Mean Field Model

In this article, we propose a mean field game approach for modeling the flows of excursionists within a network of tourist attractions. We prove the existence of an equilibrium within the network using a balance ordinary differential equation together with optimality conditions in terms of the value function. We also propose a bi-level formulation of the problem where we aim at achieving a sustainable-oriented control strategy in the upper level and at maximizing excursionists’ satisfaction in the lower level. Natural Convection Cooling of a Hot Vertical Wall Wet by a Falling Liquid Film

Abstract The system studied is a plane channel in which one of the two vertical walls is kept at an arbitrary temperature profile and may be partially or completely wet by a falling liquid film, while the opposite wall is adiabatic. Air from the environment flows along the channel with a mass flow rate which depends on the balance between hydraulic resistances and buoyancy forces. Using CFD to derive reduced order models for heat transfer in particle curtains

3–D Eulerian–Eulerian CFD is used to simulate convective heat transfer in free falling particle curtains. Total heat loss for curtaining particles is compared to heat loss for isolated single particles. Spherical silica particles with density of 2,634 kg/m³ at 400 K (200 µm, 400 µm and 600 µm) flow at approximately 0.041 kg/s to 0.2 kg/s through a narrow slot in a rectangular box (0.45 m × 0.9 m × 0.225 m) filled with ambient air. The slot sizes through which the particles enter the rectangular box were 10 to 80 mm wide. Modifying the slot size at 0.041 kg/s for 400 µm particles can lead to 13% increases in rates of convective heat transfer per unit mass. A reduced order model was developed…

Mixed MHD convection and Tritium transport in fusion-relevant configurations

Mixed MHD flow and Tritium transport were computed for a slender poloidal duct, representative of a DEMO HCLL blanket element. 2-D flow and temperature fields were computed in the duct's cross section under the assumption of parallel, fully developed flow, while Tritium concentration C was found by solving a fully 3-D problem with simplifying assumptions at the duct's ends. The spatial distribution of C depended on the intensity and direction of the forced flow. Significant peak factors were obtained if the net flow rate was so low that re-circulation occurred; C maxima were attained near the walls for upward flow, in the core region for downward flow.

Two-Dimensional Modeling of a Flat-Plate Photocatalytic Reactor for Oxidation of Indoor Air Pollutants

In this paper we present a two-dimensional (2-D) analysis of a narrow-slit, flat-plate, single-pass, flow-through photocatalytic reactor for air purification. The continuity equation for convection and diffusion in two dimensions, under un-steady-state conditions, was coupled with radiation field modeling and photocatalytic reaction kinetics to model the transient and steady-state behavior of the reactor. Quantitative Coronary Angiography and Digital Densitometric Perfusion Measurements?How to Assess the Success of Intracoronary Balloon Dilatation

Densitometric evaluation of digital subtraction angiocardiograms allows the assessment of local myocardial perfusion before and after pharmacological stimulation of coronary flow reserve during the catheterization procedure. This report deals with a case of a severe stenosis of the left coronary artery in which PTCA was regarded successful based on an appropriate increase in luminal diameter while an intima and media dissection at the dilatation site was documented. The perfusion measurements, however, pointed out a clear impairment of poststenotic myocardial perfusion after PTCA.

Myocardial Perfusion and Fractional Flow Reserve

Myocardial CT perfusion imaging is a rapidly evolving technology that allows assessment of the functional significance of potentially obstructive coronary stenosis. The opportunity for quantification of myocardial perfusion is the greatest potential advantage of CT compared with other perfusion techniques. On the other hand, fractional flow reserve during coronary angiography provides a functional assessment of coronary lesions identified with this modality. Recently, a non-invasive method for estimating fractional flow reserve, based on coronary CT angiography has been introduced. Nevertheless, at present neither CT perfusion nor CT FFR are ready for widespread use in clinical routine.

Cathodic reduction of hexavalent chromium coupled with electricity generation achieved by reverse-electrodialysis processes using salinity gradients

Abstract A new approach for the simultaneous generation of electric energy and the treatment of waters contaminated by recalcitrant pollutants using salinity gradients was proposed. Reverse electrodialysis allows for the generation of electric energy from salinity gradients. Non-specific bronchial hyper-responsiveness in children with allergic rhinitis: relationship with the atopic status

An increased prevalence of bronchial hyper-responsiveness (BHR) has been demonstrated in children from a general population, and in non-asthmatic adults with allergic rhinitis. Thus, also children with allergic rhinitis are expected to be at higher risk of BHR.
